  The church is beautiful. The mass was reverent and the homily very pertinent and easy to understand. I liked that exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was offered after mass. The priest at confession was comforting and offered wonderful spiritual guidance. I grew up at St Brigid's but have lived upstate for 30+ years. I really enjoy my return visits and appreciate how the Parish has grown. It is truly God's house and a blessing to visitors and parishioners.

  The “Mother Church” of Nassau County had its first Mass in 1840. In 1851, a farmhouse was purchased and converted to the first church. In 1856, the church was dedicated to St. Brigid of Kildare. In 1895, the second church was dedicated. It moved across the street in 1918 and was converted to the first school. It then became St. Anthony’s Hall. The third and present St. Brigid’s Church was completed in 1916. In 1924, the rectory and a convent were built. The convent is now the Schaefer Center. The present school (St. Brigid/Our Lady of Hope Regional School on Maple Avenue) was built in 1955 and expanded in 1965. A convent was built next to the school which is now leased by the Westbrook Preparatory Academy.
  
  St. Brigid’s is the first Roman Catholic Church of Nassau County by date, and it is first in the hearts and minds of the people who pray here.
